Freshman duo picks up consolation doubles title
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A consolation doubles draw title highlighted the final day of competition for Ole Miss Women's Tennis, who wrapped up the final day of the 32nd annual Roberta Alison Fall Classic at the Alabama Tennis Stadium Saturday.
The freshman duo of Victoire de Samucewicz and Grace Anne Jones made quick work in the consolation side of the Allison Eager Doubles Draw, defeating foes from UT Martin and South Alabama, each by 6-2 marks. It was the first time the rookies paired together this fall.
De Samucewicz was also victorious in singles by way of walkover. Jones was forced to retire in the middle of her second frame, down a set and 4-2 in the second.
In the Nancy Harris Singles Draw finals, senior Anna Vrbenska fell to Maryland's Ayana Akli by identical 6-2, 6-2 decisions, bringing her perfect streak on the weekend to an end. Akli and Vrbenska are both coming off advances to the quarterfinals in the ITA Southern Regional in late October.
