Women's Tennis Triumphs Over Tulane Sunday

Rebels defeat the Green Wave 5-2
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Women's Tennis moved into the win column Sunday, triumphing over Tulane 5-2 at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center, located along Manning Way.
It was a special day, as prior to the match, Ole Miss Athletics held the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the center, with more than 50 in attendance for the morning's event.
Sophomore Sabina Machalova went perfect on the afternoon, sweeping both sets in singles and joining veteran Tea Jandric for an unblemished line in doubles.
The Rebels made quick work in doubles, as the junior pair of Alexa Bortles and Cameron Kriscunas dropped their opening game before firing back to take six straight and hand Ole Miss the early point.
Machalova carried the momentum into singles, sweeping her opening set in a mere 10 minutes. The rest of the Rebels soon followed suit, with Bortles, Vrbenska, Jandric, and Janatova all picking up their first sets with relative ease.
Janatova was next to finish, handing Ole Miss a 3-0 advantage. Things stalled on the remaining four courts, as Vrbenska slipped in her second set 2-6 and Jandric took on a back-and-forth affair.
The match was clinched courtesy of Bortles, who battled through the second series before cruising in the tiebreak 7-1.
The Rebels played the match out, but couldn't maintain the shutout as Tulane's Daniela La Fuente won by retirement over Vrbenska and Sanford surrendered on a split-set super tiebreaker.
