Ole Miss picks up its second straight SEC win
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Women's Tennis lived up to its portion of the school-wide 'Beat Bama Week' promotion Friday, downing the Crimson Tide 4-2 at Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Rebels moved to .500 on the season at 5-5, picking up their second league victory in as many contests.
Ole Miss gained the advantage early, picking up the doubles point after an impressive performance on Court 2 from veterans Tea Jandric and Anna Vrbenska. The duo rallied from down 1-2 to win five consecutive games and give the Rebels cushion. Shortly after, junior Alexa Bortles and sophomore Sabina Machalova prevailed to put Ole Miss on the scoreboard and give them the lead heading into singles play.
Junior Tereza Janatova broke into another quick lead in singles play where Vrbenska followed suit. Both took their opening sets in relatively quick fashion, and Jandric followed with a 6-3 first frame, positioning the Rebels for a sweep.
Vrbenska continued to cruise, registering an unblemished second set and only surrendering one game across 13 for her first win of the spring season.
Alabama cut through the shutout with a win on Court 4, but Ole Miss reestablished the two-point lead after Janatova delivered her fourth consecutive win, putting the Rebels up 3-1.
The Tide threatened after Machalova dropped a hard-fought battle on Court 1 to narrow the deficit again at 3-2.
Enter Jandric, who picked her fifth successive win to propel the Rebels to victory.
Women's tennis was one of four Ole Miss teams to compete against the Tide over a four-day span.

Opening Statement...
"Any win you can get in the SEC is a good win, there's no bad teams in this
league – the other day against Mississippi State and today against Alabama- they're both really good teams. It was really exciting that we got the doubles point. We had been struggling in doubles and rotating around the doubles teams, so it was very exciting to see us win today, and we needed it because the match ended up being 4-2. That momentum to give
us a 1-0 lead was great. We got some quick matches from Anna (Vrbenska) and Terka (Janatova), and Tea (Jandric) was able to finish it off."
On improvements for Sunday vs. Auburn...
"There's always things to improve. Anytime you have three doubles and six matches, not everybody played great out there. Today was tough with the wind and tough conditions. So that's something we know (now) that we can play through tough conditions and win ugly in some spots, because it's not always going to feel great with the wind is blowing that hard. Just proud of the team, every win in the SEC is a great one, and we'll try to go three in a row."
