Softball Wrangles Ranked Win Over No. 18 Oklahoma State

3/16/2019 | Softball

Rebels Score Eight-Straight After Falling Behind 4-0 Early

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss picked up its third win over a ranked team in the last seven days on Saturday, defeating No. 18 Oklahoma State 8-4 in a comeback victory at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.

After surrendering four first inning runs, the Rebels (19-7) rattled off eight-straight to complete the comeback against the Cowgirls (20-6). It is just the fifth time in 2019 the Rebels have come back to win after their opponent scored the game's first run.

Kylan Becker did a little of everything out of the leadoff roll. The senior went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, scoring once herself. Brittany Finney registered a pair of hits and drove in two runs, while freshman Tate Whitley also posted a couple of knocks, scoring twice.

Molly Jacobsen picked up her ninth win of the season in a complete game effort. The junior allowed four runs on five hits, striking out a career-high 11 batters.

The game did not get off to the start that the Rebels were hoping for, with the Cowgirls leading off the game with a Rylee Bayless triple and a fielder's choice from Madi Sue Montgomery to bring Bayless in. Chyenne Factor followed with a three-run homer to left, quickly putting the Rebs in a four-run hole after one half inning.

The Rebels, however, demonstrated their resiliency to battle right back in the second. Finney smoked a double to left-center to bring Amanda Roth and Kaylee Horton around to score and Becker drove another run in with a single to center, cutting the deficit to a single run.

Abbey Latham gave the Rebels the lead for good in the fourth, cranking a double of her own to left-center, allowing Whitley and Becker to score from second and first, respectively.

After Jacobsen struck out the side in the fifth, the offense kept the momentum rolling in the home half. Singles by Finney and Whitley and a Mikayla Allee walk loaded the bases and Becker cleared them with a two-RBI single through the right side, with another run coming around on an error on the Cowgirl left fielder.

With some insurance behind her, Jacobsen sealed the deal, fanning fanning Raquel Dominguez to lock up a fifth-straight victory for the Rebels.

The Rebels return to the Ole Miss Softball Complex on Sunday to close out the weekend with a doubleheader. Ole Miss will faceoff against Samford at 1 p.m. before battling the Cowgirls in a rematch at 4 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on SEC Network +.

• Saturday's game was the fourth this season with at least three hits for Kylan Becker and her 10th multi-hit game of the season.
