Meet Features Five Women Head Coaches in Charge of Power-5 Combined Track Programs
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Ole Miss men's and women's track & field opens the 2019 outdoor season this weekend at Miami for the second edition of the Trailblazer Challenge. Fans can watch the action live on ESPN3 as part of ACC Network Extra on Saturday.
The Trailblazer Challenge features five high-major (Power-5) programs that have both the men's and women's track & field teams coached by women: Miami (Amy Deem), Ohio State (Karen Dennis), Tennessee (Beth Alford-Sulivan), USC (Caryl Smith Gilbert) and Ole Miss' own Connie Price-Smith.
"We are really excited to get outside and open the outdoor season in Miami," Price-Smith said. "The first Trailblazer Challenge last year was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to competing against some great teams, great athletes and great coaches, in what should be an excellent meet."
TEAM NOTES
• Ole Miss head coach Connie Price-Smith is in her fourth season. Price-Smith, who was the head women's coach for Team USA at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, is in her 18th season overall as a head coach.
• In four seasons at Ole Miss, Price-Smith has already mentored seven NCAA champions, 61 First or Second-Team All-Americans, 29 SEC Champions and several of the highest SEC and national team finishes ever at Ole Miss -- including the highest SEC Outdoor finish ever for the women in fifth place in 2018.
• Price-Smith's coaching staff all returns as well, with associate head coach Andre Scott (jumps, women's multis), assistant coach Anthony Acklin (sprints, hurdles), assistant coach Brian Porter (pole vault, javelin, men's multis), assistant coach John Smith (throws) and director of operations Sasha Leeth all returning for their fourth seasons at Ole Miss, with associate head coach Ryan Vanhoy (distance) entering his sixth year as a Rebel.

• Ole Miss returns three Second-Team All-Americans from 2018 (Shelby Brown, 3000-meter steeplechase; Lindsey Murray, pole vault; Jeanette Paul, 4x100-meter relay), as well as seven NCAA East Region qualifiers.
