Enright’s Winning Toss Ranks No. 2 in Ole Miss History
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Rebel women took an early lead after a deep showing in the javelin as the Ole Miss track & field team opened the 2019 outdoor season at Day One of the Trailblazer Challenge at Miami on Friday.
Ole Miss scored all 19 of its points today in the javelin, with 10 coming from the event winner, senior Alex Enright. The native of Wheaton, Illinois, won on her sixth and final throw of 45.18m (148-02), a six-foot PR that put her second all-time at Ole Miss and just four inches behind Marlee Kevech's 2007 record of 45.26m (148-06). Enright's throw today currently puts her No. 10 in the NCAA East Region.
Junior Kieshonna Brooks also set a PR in the javelin, finishing third in the meet at 36.56m (119-11) – the 14th-best throw in Ole Miss history. Haley Hood finished fifth at 31.48m (103-03), which was a six-foot PR, while Ghania Warren came in sixth with a personal best 31.38m (102-11).
Fresh off a 10th place performance in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships, sophomore Shey Taiwo led Ole Miss in the shot put with a seventh-place finish at 14.69m (48-2.50), an outdoor PR that puts her No. 6 in Rebel history. Freshman Tedreauna Britt (13.78m/45-02.50) and sophomore Leah Klein (13.74m/45-01.00) also set outdoor personal bests that rank eighth and ninth, respectively, in school history.
Pole vaulter Cole Colozzo competed for the first time in the javelin for the Rebels today, taking fifth after throwing 32.71m (107-03).
Day Two of the Trailblazer Challenge takes place Saturday morning, with field events beginning at 9 a.m. CT and running events starting at 11:33 a.m. CT. Fans can watch live on ACC Network Plus on ESPN3.
