Rebel Senior Honored After Outstanding Week at the Plate, on the Mound
TUCSON, Ariz. – After a tremendous week at the plate and on the mound for Ole Miss baseball, senior Ryan Olenek was named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week.
This marks the second straight week a Rebel has been named National Player of the Week by the publication. Thomas Dillard secured the honor last week along with a litany of other awards.
Olenek opened his week against UT Martin, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a sacrifice fly, two runs scored and one batted in. When he was all finished doing damage at the plate, he did some on the mound. The senior out of Winter Park, Florida, made his second career pitching appearance, and his first of the season, throwing a flawless ninth inning, striking out two Skyhawks along the way to seal the 12-6 Rebel win.
Olenek had a hit and a run scored in all four games this week and has done so in every game so far this season. He went 1-for-5 with a run scored Friday against Long Beach State, 3-for-5 with two more doubles and another run scored in Game 1 on Saturday before wrapping up his week with a 2-for-3 performance with a run scored in Game 2 as the Rebels swept the doubleheader and the series against the Dirtbags.
In total, Olenek finished the week with a stunning stat line, hitting .529 (9-for-17) with five runs scored, four doubles and 13 total bases. He was also 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. On the mound, Olenek went 1.0 innings with a 0.00 ERA, no hits, no runs, no walks allowed and two strikeouts.
Olenek is hitting .475 on the season, good for 21st in the nation and third in the Southeastern Conference. With 15 runs scored, Olenek is third in the league and 26th nationally. He's averaging 1.5 runs scored per game, slotting him at No. 19 in the country and No. 2 in the SEC.
