Tim Sandkaulen Provides Clincher in 4-3 Contest Friday
BATON ROUGE, La. – Junior Tim Sandkaulen provided the clincher for the Ole Miss Men's Tennis team, downing the hosts 4-3 at the LSU Tennis Complex Friday evening.
Sandkaulen's match came down to the third set after splitting two tiebreakers to begin his singles match. The No. 60 ranked player in the ITA standings edged Shane Monroe, 6-3 to give the Rebels the victory. It was Sandkaulen's fourth clincher and first in SEC play this season.
The Rebels (16-10, 5-6 SEC) fought back and forth, with no team holding more than a one-point lead throughout.
LSU (16-9, 3-8 SEC) grabbed the doubles point and the early 1-0 advantage after prevailing on Courts 1 and 2.
Freshman Simon Junk then picked up his fourth SEC winner with a two-set singles decision, 6-3, 6-4.
The Tigers regained the lead shortly after with a two-set triumph of their own. This was the last time they would be ahead.
Sophomore Finn Reynolds continued the comeback push with a 6-2, 7-6 (0) decision, impressing in the tiebreak.
Veteran Filip Kraljevic overcame a defeat in the first set to give Ole Miss a 3-2 edge, winning the final two sets 6-3, 7-6 (1). Kraljevic won his fourth consecutive match, and fifth in his last six decisions.
LSU tied it once more with a winner on Court 3. Senior Fabian Fallert pushed No. 107 Boris Kozlov the full three sets, coming up just short.
