Women’s Tennis Upset Attempt Falls Short at No. 6 Vanderbilt

Rebels edged 4-3 in Nashville Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Ole Miss Women's Tennis team nearly upended No. 6 Vanderbilt, falling 4-3 at the Currey Tennis Center Sunday.
 
Senior Tea Jandric and junior Terka Janatova continued their SEC win streaks. Jandric won her seventh straight, while Janatova secured her sixth consecutive SEC decision.
 
Vanderbilt (14-5, 9-2 SEC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with doubles victories on Courts 1 and 3.
 
Janatova overcame a 4-6 first-set defeat and then trailed 3-1 in the second. She then rallied off five points to tie the match and cruised in the third, 6-1.
 
Sophomore Sabina Machalova picked up her third ranked win of the spring with a three-setter over No. 63 Georgia Drummy, putting Ole Miss (11-10, 4-7 SEC) up 2-1.
 
Junior Anna Vrbenska battled No. 14 Christina Rosca the distance before losing, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Fellow classmate Alexa Bortles also fell in three sets.
 
Jandric provided the equalizer, dispatching No. 4 Fernanda Contreras in three as well.
 
The match came down to a dual between senior Allie Sanford and No. 115 Emily Smith. Smith gave the Commodores the victory, winning 6-3, 6-0.
