Beau Briggs Named to Community Service Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A pair of Ole Miss men's golfers earned SEC postseason recognition, the conference office announced Thursday.
Jackson Suber earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team, while Beau Briggs claimed a spot on the SEC Community Service Team.
In his first season as a Rebel, Suber competed in all 13 tournaments, and his stroke average of 72.09 ranked second on the team. He had four top-10 finishes on his record, including two runner-ups, Suber placed second in his first collegiate event, the Ocean Course Invitational, as well as the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in April. His 65 (-7) in the final round at Old Waverly tied the tournament record.
The Tampa, Florida, native fired 14 rounds at par-or-better this season, including a 5-under 65 in the second round of the SEC Championship at the challenging Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club. In his first postseason action at the NCAA Stanford Regional, Suber tied for 12th overall with a 54-hole total of 1-under 209 (74-68-67), improving each round he played. His 12th-place performance was the best ever by an Ole Miss freshman at an NCAA Regional. Suber's final round 67 (-3) was the second-best by a Rebel in NCAA postseason play.
Suber becomes the seventh Rebel to be named to the SEC All-Freshman team, the last being Cecil Wegener in 2018.
Briggs, who had a career final year at Ole Miss, made an impact off the golf course as well. Among his community service outings, the senior spent time at the Oxford Boys and Girls Club to help children focus on academic success, good character and healthy lifestyles. The senior participated in Reading with the Rebels, stopping by local elementary schools to read books to the kids.
He also helped coordinate Rebelthon, the annual dance marathon that raises money for Batson Children's Hospital, as well as Hope to Dream. He helped with the Books and Bears program, distributing toys to local children during the holiday season. Keeping the holiday spirit, Briggs participated in Adopt-a-Basket, which gives food items to families in need during the Thanksgiving season. Finally, Briggs served his fellow Rebels as a member of the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was instrumental in the annual Rebels' Choice Awards.
This marks the second straight year Briggs has been on the SEC Community Service Team.
