Ole Miss Owns an Institutional Multi-Year Average of 990
INDIANAPOLIS โ Ole Miss Athletics continues to soar in the classroom, recording the highest APR score in program history with a multi-year average of 990 in the annual APR release by the NCAA on Wednesday.
ย
Ole Miss has put together another superb season academically, once again breaking the Graduation Success Rate record and posting the highest cumulative department GPA in Rebel history. Two Rebels โ Caroline Adams and Marisa Kutchma โ were also named Taylor Medal recipients, the highest academic honor bestowed by the University of Mississippi.
ย
Ole Miss recorded a single-year APR score of 992 in this latest report from the 2017-18 school year โ which ranks eight points higher than the Division I and FBS average of 984 and nine points higher than the SEC average of 983.
ย
"When you see APR scores this high across all sports, you know there are special things going on throughout the athletic department that are positively impacting the retention and eligibility of our student-athletes," said Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development Dr. Bob Baker. "This is a special department, and these scores truly reflect that."
Of the 16 sports Ole Miss offers, 11 posted perfect single-season scores of 1,000. Additionally, five programs โ men's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis and women's tennis โ own multi-year scores within the top-10 percent of their sports nationally, which earned them the NCAA Public Recognition Award last week.
The overall program multi-year score of 990 is seven points above the current national average of 983. Ole Miss also leads or is tied for the lead among SEC schools in seven sports โ men's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, rifle, men's tennis, women's tennis and men's track, while the women's track and volleyball teams rank second among their sports.
ย
The APR, created to provide more of a real-time measurement of academic success than graduation rates offer, is a team-based metric where scholarship student-athletes earn one point each term for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Schools that don't offer scholarships track their recruited student-athletes.
ย
Every Division I sports team submits data to have its Academic Progress Rate calculated each academic year. The NCAA reports both single-year rates and four-year rates, on which penalties for poor academic performance are based. National aggregates are based on all teams with usable, member-provided data. APRs for each team, lists of teams receiving public recognition and those receiving sanctions are available online through theย NCAA's searchable database.
