Rebels Go Wire-To-Wire for Fifth Title in Henkes’ Era

WOLCOTT, Colo. – The Ole Miss women's golf team went wire-to-wire to claim the title at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club on Wednesday. It was an all-around team effort, with the Rebels placing four in the top-12 individually, led by Andrea Lignell who placed seventh.

The Rebels entered the final day with a 12-stroke cushion after dominant under-par performances the first two days in Colorado. An even-par 288 on the final day would be more than enough to claim the title. Ole Miss' 54-hole total of 15-under 849 (281-280-288) is the lowest 54-hole tournament total in program history.

"Today was a great day for our program," head coach Kory Henkes said. "The team played fantastic golf this week and the results showed. It was an all-around team effort the three days. I was proud of their ability to bounce back today after a rocky start to post a great round to cap off the win."

This marks the fifth team title in the Henkes' era at Ole Miss, the last coming at the 2019 SEC Championship.

Lignell put together a career tournament, going 69-67-74—210 to finish seventh individually, setting a new career-high finish and career-low 54-hole score. The freshman had a slow start on Wednesday, going five-over in her first eight holes, but bounced back on the final nine going 3-under to earn a top-10 finish.

Pi-Lillebi Hermansson notched her third top-10 finish of her career. The senior set a new career-low 54-hole total, carding a 5-under 211 (70-68-73). Hermansson started the final day 5-over her first two holes, but went 5-under the last 16 holes to rebound and stay in the top-10.

Kennedy Swann had the low round of the day for Ole Miss on Wednesday, firing a 4-under 68 to go bogey-free with five birdies her first 16 holes until her first and only bogey on No. 1. Her 11th place finish sets a new career-low, and marks her second straight event where she's placed in the top-20.

Julia Johnson finished tied for 12th, her 20th top-20 finish of her career. The sophomore went 1-under for the tournament, carding a 70-72-73—215, her second straight tournament par-or-better.

Ellen Hutchinson-Kay earned her sixth top-20 finish of her career playing as an individual, going 71-73-74—218 (+2).

Next up for the Rebels is the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah in Chicago, Illinois, Oct. 7-8.
