All Five Rebels Card Under Par Final Rounds

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped up play at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate with all five Rebels posting under par rounds Tuesday. Led by a 68 (-3) from Sarut Vongchaisit, Ole Miss fired a final round 276 (-8) and ended the tournament in eighth place at 19-under (276-281-276—833).

"Overall, it was a solid week for our team," said head coach Chris Malloy. "I was happy to see them bounce back from our last tournament, come out and compete to win this week. We now have a few days to get back and get some good work in before our final event of the fall."

As a team, the Rebels recorded 65 birdies throughout the week to rank second amongst the 14-team field. Ole Miss played the par 3s 2-under, which was good enough for second as well.

Protecting their home course, Vanderbilt claimed the tournament title (271-265-277—813). Arkansas' Julian Perico earned medalist honors with a 14-under 199 (64-66-69).

Veeti Mahonen led the field in birdies, making 19 over 54 holes on his way to the second top-10 finish of his career. He carded a final round 69 (-2) to place eighth at 9-under (67-68-69—204). After a quiet front nine Tuesday, Mahonen rolled the rock coming in with five birdies. He started the back with birdies on No. 10 and No. 11 before adding a trio on holes 15-17. His three-round total of 204 was his best in 10 tournaments as a Rebel.

Just missing the top 10, Jack Gnam shot three under par rounds to tie for 11th and finish with a career-best 205 (-8). His opening round of 65 (-6), a career low, was followed by consecutive rounds of 70 (-1). During the final round, Gnam recorded five birdies to counter four bogeys.

Brett Schell finished the tournament strong, firing a bogey-free 32 (-4) on the back nine this afternoon. After three birdies and three bogeys through the first 16 holes of his final round, the freshman put together back-to-back birdies to end his day and post a 69 (-2). His low round of the tournament, Schell tied for 40th at even par (73-71-69—213).

Jackson Suber's final round of 70 (-1) was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 17th. From 80 yards out, he spun back a wedge that found the bottom of the cup for a deuce. The eagle moved Suber into red figures for the day, and a par at the last made sure he stayed that way.

Ole Miss' round of the day belonged to Vongchaisit, who set the tone as the first Rebel on the course. He made par at No. 1, followed by three consecutive birdies. The sophomore added three more birdies on the back nine, including two over the final four holes. The 3-under 68 was Vongchaisit's lowest round of the year.

Wrapping up the fall, the Rebels will tee it up at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate for the second straight year (Nov. 9-10). The tournament will take place at the Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
