Schnitta Tallies 11 Kills to Pace the Rebels

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Despite its best hitting percentage of the season, Ole Miss (0-4) couldn't figure out Arkansas (4-0) and their high-powered offense in a 3-0 loss from Barnhill Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Hitting at a .211 clip was not enough for the Rebels, as the Razorbacks totaled 47 kills in the three-set match with three Hogs in double figures. For the second match in a row, right side Samantha Schnitta led the Rebels in kills, this time with 11.

Schnitta started off the first set for the Rebels with an early kill, as the teams went back-and-forth to tie at five all. Service errors plagued the Rebels quickly as Arkansas went on multiple 2-0 runs and then a larger 4-0 run to lead 16-9. Ole Miss was able to regain some momentum with three points in a row to pull within four at 16-12. 14 kills in the set for Arkansas assisted them to pull away and close out the set with an ace to win 25-18. Schnitta accounted for more than half of the Rebels 13 kills in the set, with seven total herself.

In their best set of the day, Ole Miss went on multiple runs to challenge Arkansas and put them on edge. A Lauren connection from Lauren Bars to Lauren Thompson for a kill brought the Rebels within one to make it 5-4. However, it felt as if they were playing catch up during the set, often trailing by two or three. Arkansas began to lengthen its lead with its 22nd kill of the match, putting the score at 13-8. A 6-0 run, with two aces from Bars, allowed the Rebels to take their first lead of the day at 19-18 lead. However, a quick 3-0 run by Arkansas was too much for Ole Miss to handle as they were unable to keep up, dropping the set 25-22.

In the third set, Bayleigh Scott added her touch with her second kill of the match before the Hogs went on a 4-0 run to make the score 6-3. A kill from Gabby Easton halted the momentum for the Razorbacks briefly but ultimately wasn't enough. Trailing by as many as 12, Ole Miss was unable to overcome eight service aces by Arkansas on the day, falling in the third set 25-11.

Ole Miss will conclude its time on the road this fall season next weekend, heading to Baton Rouge next weekend to take on LSU. The Rebels will be facing the Tigers Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. CT, with Saturday's match streaming through SEC Network + and Sunday's match airing nationally on ESPNU.
