Doug Nikhazy Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

Sophomore Left-Hander Threw Six No-Hit Innings Friday vs. Xavier
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Just two weeks into the 2020 season, Ole Miss baseball sophomore left-hander Doug Nikhazy is already back on the Southeastern Conference weekly awards list.
Nikhazy was named SEC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday, giving him three SEC weekly honors for his career after taking home two SEC Freshman of the Week nods in 2019.
The sophomore out of Windermere, Florida, threw 6.0 innings of no-hit baseball in Friday's 13-0 win over Xavier, allowing just two baserunners via walks while striking out nine. That performance set the tone for what would be the second combined no-hitter in program history and the second in as many seasons.
Nikhazy was relieved by two freshmen, Drew McDaniel and Jackson Kimbrell, who each made their collegiate debut as they carried on the team's first nine-inning no-hitter since 1966. The Rebels no-hit Arkansas-Pine Bluff last season in seven innings. This weekend's no-no gave Ole Miss no-hitters in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.
The Preseason All-American Nikhazy's nine strikeouts were the second-most in his career behind the 10 Ks he recorded against Texas A&M on April 26, 2019. It was also Nikhazy's third career scoreless start and his third start in which he allowed three hits or fewer.
Ole Miss has now had a player on the SEC weekly honor list for each of the first two weeks of the season after Cael Baker was named SEC Co-Player of the Week in Week 1.
The Rebels return to action Tuesday, hosting in-state rival Southern Miss for a 4 p.m. CT midweek contest. Nikhazy and the Rebels hit the road this weekend for the first time during the 2020 for the Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, North Carolina.
