Ole Miss defeats North Alabama and Alcorn State, 7-0 and 4-0
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Women's Tennis moves to 6-2 on the season after picking up a pair of wins Saturday at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center, defeating North Alabama 7-0 and following that with a 4-0 victory against Alcorn State in the finale.
MATCH ONE
The Rebels played out their first contest of the day, picking up wins on all seven courts.
In their doubles debut, freshmen Kelsey Mize and Grace Anne Jones coasted, winning 6-1 after a serve from Mize brought home the game-winning point. After the duo of senior Alexa Bortles and freshman Victoire de Samucewicz dropped their contest on Court 2, the doubles point once again relied on the senior duo of Anna Vrbenska and Tereza Janatova.
Knotted at 3-3, the pair took their final three games, including deuce point in the finale to win 6-3 and clinch the doubles point for the Rebs.
Singles started off productively, with five of the six Rebels leading by three games or more in their opening set, including Mize who blanked her opponent in the opening set.
Vrbenska and Janatova each won six straight games to give themselves the advantage heading into the second set, and after Mize surrendered just one game to put Ole Miss up 2-0, the Rebels looked poised for the clinch.
Jones held a three-game lead, Bortles was up 5-0, and Janatova held a 4-1 advantage to position Ole Miss comfortably for the win.
Jones registered her first collegiate dual match win with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on Court 5.
MATCH TWO
The Rebels played to clinch in their second contest of the day, registering a quick 4-0 victory.
Both doubles groups open in commanding fashion, blanking the Braves on both courts to head into singles action up 2-0 thanks to a default victory on Court 6.
Vrbenska picked up her second win of the day, and the match was clinched by Jones, who went perfect in a 6-0, 6-0 decision on Court 6.
