Women’s Cross Country Soars to Program-Best No. 9 in USTFCCCA Poll
11/16/2021 | Cross Country
Previous High for the Rebel Women was No. 11 in Week Five This Year
NEW ORLEANS – Ole Miss women's cross country was rewarded for a superb victory at the NCAA South Regional, moving into the national top-10 for the first time in program history at No. 9 in the Week Seven USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll released on Monday. The Rebel men, meanwhile, moved up four spots to No. 15 after also winning the South Regional.
This is the second time this season the Rebel women have set a record national ranking after earning a No. 11 slot in Week Five. This is just the third top-10 appearance in the combined history of Ole Miss men's and women's cross country, joining a No. 8 men's ranking in Week Four of 2019 and a No. 10 slot in Week Three of 2016.
Both teams finished 12th at the NCAA Championships last season, which was a program record for the Rebel women and was the second-best finish ever for the Rebel men. Ole Miss is one of just three schools this season to have swept their regional meet (Notre Dame, Stanford), one of 10 to have both their men's and women's teams earn AQ berths to the national meet, one of five to have their men and women qualify each of the last six years (Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, Stanford), and is one of just four nationally to have placed both men's and women's teams in the national top-25 the last five years (BYU, Colorado, Stanford).
This is the 35th time both Ole Miss squads have been ranked simultaneously, as well as the 11th time in a row dating back to the end of the 2020 season.
This is the 11th straight appearance in the national poll for the Ole Miss women, who have now appeared in the USTFCCCA rankings 36 times in their history. Ole Miss has at least been receiving votes 28 of the last 29 women's polls dating back to 2018 and 45 of the last 48 back to 2016.
Meanwhile, this is the 53rd total appearance for the Rebel men and their 47th in a row dating back to the 2016 preseason. Additionally, Ole Miss has ranked in 53 of the last 56 men's polls going back to 2014 and have at least received votes in 56 of the last 58 also back to 2014.
Ole Miss looks to put these national rankings to the test at the grand finale of the cross country season, the 2021 NCAA Championships, which will be held this Saturday (November 20) at Florida State. Coverage begins on ESPNU at 9 a.m. CT.
