Rebels Lose 4-0 at Home to Bulldogs
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss (5-4, 1-2 SEC) lost 4-0 to No. 3 Georgia (6-1, 2-0 SEC) at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on Friday.
The Rebels were swept for the first time this season. Ole Miss has now faced two top three opponents this year (at No. 1 North Carolina Jan. 23).
In singles, the Rebels won two sets off of the Bulldogs. Tiphanie Fiquet was in position to win her match at No. 2 singles prior to Georgia's clinch. Fiquet led No. 31 Lea Ma 6-3, 4-1. Tereza Janatova also led her opponent, No. 60 Meg Kowalski, 6-4, 4-1 (unfinished). Lillian Gabrielsen was in prime position to force a third set against No. 50 Marta Gonzalez. She led 5-2 in the second prior to the matches' stoppage.
No. 39 Sabina Machalova, Anna Vrbenska, and Kelsey Mize lost to the Bulldogs in straight sets.
In doubles, the Rebels lost two matches with one unfinished to give the Bulldogs the opening decision point. No. 24 Alexa Bortles and Machalova narrowly trailed, 4-3, in their unfinished match versus Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arsenault. Both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles lost 6-3 to Georgia. Gabrielsen lost in doubles for the first time in 2020-21.

Ole Miss hosts No. 20 Tennessee on Sunday (Feb. 28) at 1 p.m. CT. The match will take place at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center (weather permitting).
