THE COURSE
The legendary Dunes Golf and Beach Club is a premier country club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina that measures 7,233 yards as a par 72. Designed by world-renowned course architect Robert Trent Jones, the Dunes is consistently ranked in the top 100 courses in the nation across virtually all major golf media outlets. The Dunes has played host to many PGA Tour and Champions Tour events as well as USGA Championships.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH MALLOY
"We're excited to get back to competition. We spent a lot of time last week on the Tosh Family Short Course working on things to prepare us for this week. The Dunes is a true championship test of golf, and the weather conditions will be tough. Our guys should be ready to go."
A DIFFERENT FIELD
The General Hackler Championship will have a different field than the other tournament Ole Miss has competed in this season. All three fall tournaments were strictly conference competition, while the LSU Invitational had 12 SEC schools in the 15-team field. The Rebels are the lone SEC school in this week's General Hackler Championship.
LAST TIME OUT
Holding the 36-hole lead, Jackson Suber made sure his name stayed at the top of the leaderboard. The Ole Miss golfer produced his third straight under-par round, firing a final round 71 (-1) to capture medalist honors at the LSU Invitational (Feb. 26-28). Suber finished the week at 5-under (71-69-71—211) for a three-shot victory, his second win in as many starts. As a team, the Rebels posted a final round 294 (+6) to move up the leaderboard and into eighth place. Ole Miss (+29) finished ahead of SEC foes Mississippi State (+30), No. 12 Georgia (+35), Kentucky (+36), Missouri (+39), host LSU (+40), Alabama (DNF) as well as Louisiana Tech (+67). No. 6 Illinois won the tournament at 12-over.
SUBER NAMED SEC GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Jackson Suber earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors after winning the LSU Invitational (Feb. 26-28). In a 90-player field that featured seven of the top 15 golfers in the country, Suber played better than all of them. He finished 5-under for the tournament (71-69-71—211), the only one in the field to produce three under-par rounds. Out of the 54 holes, Suber birdied 14 of them for another tournament best. He dominated the par 5s throughout the weekend, playing the long distance holes 7-under to pace the field. The junior from Tampa, Florida collected the accolade for the first time in his career.
CONSISTENCY IN THE LINEUP
Chris Malloy has found consistency in his lineup with four Rebels playing in all four events so far this season: Veeti Mahonen, Brett Schell, Jackson Suber and Sarut Vongchaisit. Jack Gnam and Cecil Wegener are the other two Rebels to crack the lineup, appearing in two tournaments apiece.
THE VOYAGE TO SEA ISLAND CONTINUES
After this week, Ole Miss will be halfway through its spring season as it prepares for the SEC Championship. In back-to-back weeks, the Rebels play two familiar courses. Remaining in state, Ole Miss returns to the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in West Point, Mississippi (March 26-28). Beginning the month of April and rounding out play before the conference championship, the Rebels head back to Birmingham for the Shoal Creek Invitational (April 5-7). Then, Ole Miss has two weeks to prepare for the SEC Championship (April 21-25).
