Rebels Drops First SEC Game of the Season
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss (18-8, 3-1 SEC) had its 11-game winning streak snapped on Friday, falling to No. 17 Arkansas (21-2, 4-0 SEC) 5-1 in game one of the weekend at Bogle Park.
Anna Borgen took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits in four-plus innings. Ava Tillmann came in to throw a pair of frames in relief, tallying two scoreless innings.
The Razorbacks got on the board in the second inning, taking advantage of a Linnie Malkin one-out double with an infield bloop single off the bat of Valerie Ventura to take a 1-0 lead. Ole Miss had a chance to tie immediately in the top of the third following Tate Whitley's 2-out double, but couldn't capitalize.
Arkansas would go on to add three runs in the third, stringing together four straight hits to open the inning and taking advantage of an Ole Miss fielding error to grow the lead to 4-0. The Rebels again attempted to answer immediately but stranded a pair of runners in the fourth.
After a Kayla Green RBI single in the fifth made it 5-0, the Rebels cut into the deficit with an Autumn Gillespie sacrifice fly in the sixth, plating Abbey Latham. Ole Miss put together a 2-out threat in the seventh but couldn't break through as the Razorbacks closed out the game one win.
