FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 12 Ole Miss (10-9, 7-5 SEC) takes on No. 39 LSU (12-11, 4-8 SEC) in the second round of the SEC Championships at 12 p.m. CT on Tuesday. Arkansas hosts the conference tournament this year at the Billingsley Tennis Center.
Prepared for the Postseason
The Rebels are rested after not competing last week. In the final two matches of the regular season, the Rebels fell 5-2 at No. 17 Kentucky (April 9) and won 4-3 at Vanderbilt (April 11). The Rebels won five of their final seven matches prior to close the season. Ole Miss has fared well this year away from Oxford, and has won six of eight matches on the road and one of two in neutral site competitions. The Rebels enter the conference tournament with a positive SEC record for the first time since 2015.
Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen concluded the regular season ranked No. 1 in doubles in all of collegiate tennis. They have held the top national ranking since March 24. Reynolds and Sandkaulen earned a 13-2 record in the regular season (7-1 SEC) and were 6-1 versus top-50 opponents.
In doubles, the Rebels overall have won 26 of 48 dual matches (15-12 in SEC play). The Rebels have compiled an even 36-36 record across all SEC singles matches. Ole Miss prepares for No. 39 LSU having gone 5-2 this season versus opponents ranked outside of the top 25 rankings.
Last Time Versus the Tigers
Ole Miss dominated LSU, 6-1, in their previous match this season on March 5. The Rebels won at home in the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center. After dropping the opening doubles point, the Rebels won all six singles matches including five victories in straight sets.
The Rebels last faced the Tigers in the SEC Championships in 2009. The Rebels defeated the No. 30 Tigers 4-2 in the quarterfinals. Ole Miss proceeded to win the conference title over Tennessee to earn back-to-back SEC Championships.
Scouting LSU
The Tigers defeated No. 18 Alabama, 4-1, in their final match of the regular season last Thursday (April 15). LSU won two matches versus ranked opponents in 2021. The Tigers ended the regular season losing three of four matches in April. LSU went a combined 2-7 in road and neutral site matches during the regular season.
LSU features one ranked singles player, No. 48 Ronnie Hohmann. Hohmann also ranks No. 39 in doubles alongside Rafael Wagner. LSU's No. 2 doubles, Joao Graca and Joey Thomas rank No. 83 in the nation. Boris Kozlov leads the Tigers in singles victories with 13 overall and 10 in duals.
Next Up
If the Rebels advance Tuesday they will next face No. 2 seed Tennessee at 12 p.m. CT on Wednesday. The Volunteers are currently ranked No. 4 in the Orcale/ITA rankings. Ole Miss has competed twice against Tennessee this season, losing both matchups.
Ole Miss won the last SEC Championships hosted in Fayetteville in 2008.
