All-American Senior Allen Gordon Now Ranks No. 11 NCAA in the Long Jump

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss track & field took to the long jump pit with a vengeance on a windy day at Arkansas, recording several all-time marks to conclude its stay at the John McDonnell Invitational on Sunday.

All-American senior Allen Gordon had a career day in the long jump, finishing as the runner-up at a new overall PR of 7.91m/25-11.50 (+2.6). That wind reading is above the international standard of 2.0, but still below the NCAA qualifying and Ole Miss record book standard of 4.0. With his newest career best today, Gordon improves upon his slot as the fourth-best in school history, but also moves up to No. 11 in the NCAA, No. 7 in the East Region and No. 4 in the SEC this season. As it stands, Gordon is currently the only jumper in the nation to have cleared 7' 1" in the high jump, 25' 11.50" in the long jump and 50' 2" in the triple jump this season.

Senior Kieshonna Brooks stole the show on Sunday, though, coming through with big performances in both the long jump and 100-meter hurdles – all within the span of roughly two hours.

Brooks opened the day with a season-best 13.55 (+3.9) in the hurdles prelim to qualify for the final later in the day. In between, she went over to the long jump and had the best field series of her career, with all six jumps measuring beyond six meters for the first time as a Rebel. Her best of 6.24m (20-05.75) was good for runner-up honors, but the howling wind reading of +5.4 disqualifies it from ranking in the record book or within the NCAA descending lists. However, her second-best mark of 6.21m/20-04.50 (+1.9) did end up wind-legal, a new PR that moves her up to No. 8 all-time at Ole Miss and No. 26 on the NCAA East list this season.

Not long after, Brooks got into the blocks for the 100-meter hurdles final, where she clocked a new career-best 13.42 (+2.8) to improve on her standing as the third-best hurdler in Ole Miss history and move up to No. 26 on the NCAA East list.

Back in the long jump, Brooks was joined by two other Rebels in the final: Sara Van Aken in fifth place at a new PR of 5.92m/19-05.25 (+1.5), and Skye Gross in sixth place within one inch of her PR at 5.90m/19-04.25 (+2.2). Van Aken also had a third-place finish in the high jumper earlier in the day at 1.65m (5-05.00).

All-American John Rivera Jr. recorded his first 800-meter time of the outdoor season on Sunday, finishing third at 1:50.89 ahead of teammates Marcus Dropik in fifth (1:51.58) and Jacob Lough in 10th (1:52.54).

The Rebels will split next week for their final regular season weekend, with crews going to both Baton Rouge for the LSU Invitational and Starkville for MSU's Maroon & White Invite.
