Track & Field Concludes Regular Season at LSU and MSU

Rebels Now Look Ahead to 2021 SEC Outdoor Championships (May 13-15)

BATON ROUGE, La. – Ole Miss men's and women's track & field wrapped up its regular season with a pair of solid outings across two meets at the LSU Invitational and MSU's Maroon & White Invite on Saturday.

All-American senior jumper Allen Gordon was in prime form at LSU on Saturday, leading the Rebels with a pair of impressive finishes. Gordon finished runner-up in the high jump at a new outdoor career-best of 2.18m (7-01.75) – second only to LSU's JuVaughn Harrison, who set the third-best height in the world this year at 2.30m (7-06.50). Gordon's newest high jump PR pushes him up to No. 4 all-time at Ole Miss, as well as No. 18 in the NCAA, No. 10 in the East Region and No. 5 in the SEC this year.

Gordon followed that up with a win in the triple jump, where he leapt 15.25m (50-00.50) into a headwind measuring 2.6 meters per second. Gordon is currently the only athlete in the NCAA to have jumped 7' 1.75" in the high jump, 25' 11.50" in the long jump and 50' 2" in the triple jump this season, and he is also the only jumper in Ole Miss history to have ever jumped those distances across an entire career.

Sara Van Aken had a successful day in the women's edition of the high jump, finishing third at a PR height of 1.72m (5-07.75) to move up to No. 9 all-time at Ole Miss.

Ole Miss found success amid stacked fields featuring professional athletes on the track in the women's 800-meter and 100-meter dash. Sintayehu Vissa and Loral Winn ran in a competitive 800-meter field, with Vissa finishing fourth at 2:05.52 (and beating out professional runner Shamier Little in fifth), and Winn taking seventh at 2:08.46.

All-American junior Brandee Presley faced a similarly tough scenario in the 100-meter dash, which was dominated by LSU legends and pro sprinters Aleia Hobbs (11.01) and Mikiah Brisco (11.09). Presley was the second-best collegian behind Arkansas' Jada Baylark (third, 11.34), finishing in fifth place overall at 11.47 (+1.3).

Presley was key on two strong outings from the Rebel women's relay squads on Saturday, running the second leg on both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. The 4x1 squad of Olivia Womack, Presley, Jayda Eckford and Toni Glatz finished fourth at a season-best time of 44.66, which ties for the 15th-fastest in Ole Miss history. To close the day, the quartet of Orianna Shaw, Presley, Glatz and Womack ran 3:44.04 in the 4x400-meter relay to finish as the runners-up.

The men's 4x100-meter relay of Isaiah Teer, Elijah Dryer, Kenney Broadnax and Tristyn Wooley tallied a runner-up finish of their own at a season-best 40.28.

Sophomore pole vaulter Lyndsey Reed remained consistent, tying her PR of 4.28m (14-00.50) to finish fourth overall in a tough women's pole vault field. Freshman Samara McConnell was right behind her in fifth place at 4.13m (13-06.50). Peyton Weissmann was the runner-up in the men's pole vault, finishing near his season-best at 5.17m (16-11.50).

Down in Starkville, the Rebel throwers continued to dominate with an Ole Miss sweep of the shot put competitions. Jalani Davis led yet another 1-2-3 Rebel women's showing, winning the shot put at 16.34m (53-07.50). Jasmine Mitchell was the runner-up at 16.06m (52-08.25), while Tedreauna Britt was the third-place finisher at 15.73m (51-07.25). Daniel Viveros earned his first win of the outdoor season in the shot put at 18.06m (59-03.00).

Ole Miss will take next week off to prepare for the 2021 SEC Outdoor Championships, which will be held at Texas A&M on May 13-15.
