Nikhazy, Broadway Selected on Second Day of MLB Draft

Nikhazy Chosen 58th Overall by Cleveland Indians, Broadway to White Sox in Sixth Round
DENVER – Doug Nikhazy and Taylor Broadway were one of the top starter-closer duos in college baseball this season, and now they're both headed to the professional ranks. Nikhazy was selected 58th overall in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Broadway went in the 6th round to the Chicago White Sox.
Ole Miss has now had 202 players drafted all-time, including 199 in the Mike Bianco era. Ole Miss has now had 12 players drafted in the top six rounds over the past four years. Nikhazy is the 19th Rebel pitcher to be drafted in the top five rounds in the Bianco era.
At least one Rebel has been drafted in 33 consecutive seasons, a stretch dating back to 1989, and multiple Rebels have been drafted for 23 straight seasons. Fellow Rebel pitcher Gunnar Hoglund was taken in yesterday's MLB Draft first round, giving Ole Miss selections in the first two rounds for the first time since 2008 and just the second time in program history.
Nikhazy was voted a unanimous All-American at the conclusion of his junior season with first team selections from ABCA/Rawlings, Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and D1Baseball. He joined Drew Pomeranz (2010) and Alex Yarbrough (2012) as the only three Rebels to earn First Team nods from all four publications recognized by the NCAA.
Also named an All-American in 2020 by Collegiate Baseball, Nikhazy is just the fourth player and first pure pitcher to earn two-time All-America status in program history.
Nikhazy earned his program-record 12th win of the season with a Super Regional triumph at No. 5 Arizona. He struck out 10 in the victory, his eighth 10-strikeout performance of the season, to give him 142 Ks on the year. The final outing pushed Nikhazy past Will Kline (134 in 2007) and Drew Pomeranz (139 in 2010) to second on the Rebels' single-season strikeout chart, behind only Lance Lynn's 146 strikeout effort in 2007.
The first major highlight of Nikhazy's junior campaign came in the form of a complete-game, one-hit shutout in front of the largest on-campus crowd in college baseball this season at eventual national champion Mississippi State. The second came in the NCAA Oxford Regional against Florida State, where Nikhazy tied a program record with 16 strikeouts in a 4-3 Rebel victory.
Together, Nikhazy and Broadway formed one of the most formidable starter-closer duos in college baseball. Ole Miss was 10-1 this season in games when both Nikhazy and Broadway pitched.
Broadway earned All-America honors from Baseball America and NCBWA as he finished with a 4-3 record and a 3.44 ERA in addition to his 16 saves and posted a 2.51 ERA over his 29 relief appearances. The Rebels' unquestioned go-to reliever struck out 66 batters and walked just nine this season. His 30 total pitching appearances are tied for the second-most in a single season in program history.
The senior out of Cypress, Texas, set a program record with 16 saves in 2021, three more than any other single-season effort in program history. His 16 saves this season alone tied him for eighth on the Ole Miss career saves chart.
The MLB Draft concludes Tuesday with rounds 11-20, starting at 11 a.m. CT on MLB.com.
