Women’s Tennis Faces North Alabama in Season Opener Sunday

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis readies for its first team versus team competition of the 2022 spring season at home against North Alabama (0-2, 0-0 ASUN). The first match is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center. The second match will begin at approximately 4 p.m. CT.
The Rebels return to Oxford to commence the spring season at home. Ole Miss takes on North Alabama for the third consecutive season. The Rebels swept the Lions in the last three previous matchups.
Torero Tune-Up
Ole Miss competed last weekend at the University of San Diego in the final invitational play of the 2021-22 season. The Rebels won three of five singles matches on Friday (Jan. 14) competing against San Diego, Kansas and Texas Tech opponents.
Ranked Rebels
The Ole Miss roster features four players in the ITA National Rankings. In singles, Tiphanie Fiquet ranks No. 20 and Sabina Machalova ranks No. 80. The doubles duo of Ludmilá Kareisová and Kelsey Mize rank No. 8 in the nation.
A Fantastic Fall
The Rebels earned key victories throughout the fall season. Ole Miss players competed at the coveted Milwaukee Tennis Classic, ITA All-American Championships, ITA Southern Championships and ITA National Fall Championships. Fiquet won the singles draw of the ITA Southern Championships and Kareisová and Mize placed runners-up in doubles at the event.
The Take on the Lions
North Alabama enters the doubleheader with a 0-2 record after falling twice at Memphis on Jan. 14. The Lions were swept by the Tigers twice, 7-0, 7-0. North Alabama recorded a 6-14 overall record last season. The Lions' No. 1 singles player, Peyton Andrews, concluded last season with a 5-1 record across her last seven singles matches.
One Week to Kickoff
Ole Miss travels to Atlanta next weekend to participate in ITA Kickoff Weekend action. The Rebels take on No. 14 Michigan in their opening matchup on Jan. 29. The winner of the Georgia Tech regional draw advances to the ITA National Indoor Championships.
