THE COURSE
The Blessings Golf Club stretches to over 7,900 yards from the back tees and plays through two distinct landforms-the Clear Creek floodplain and a plateau that rises to 65 feet above the floodplain where it's bisected by a series of ravines. Both the outward and inward nines climb up and down between the two topographies, creating drama and variety on each hole. The course was originally designed by architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. with a redesign recently completed by noted architect Kyle Phillips. The Club is located in Johnson, Arkansas, and is the home to the University of Arkansas Men's and Women's Golf Teams.
THOUGHTS FROM COACHES
Kory Henkes - Women's Golf Head Coach
"We are looking forward to a great week in Arkansas. We have had some time to regroup and work on the things we needed to over the past two weeks and are looking forward to competing again. The Blessings is a challenging golf course that keeps you on your toes throughout the entire round. This is also a unique event where we play all three rounds with both our team and our men's team competing here as well, so it will be a lot of fun!"
Chris Malloy - Men's Golf Head Coach
"We are eager to get back to The Blessings for this event. Our guys played great here last year and expect more of the same this year. This course is the most demanding that we play all year. We will have to do a good job of handling the adversity that will for sure be thrown our way."
WOMEN'S GOLF SWEEPS SEASON-OPENER IN CHARLESTON
The Ole Miss women's golf team started their fall season off with a bang in Charleston, South Carolina, with the team sweeping their way through the Cougar Classic to claim both the team and individual titles on the week. TANKERSLEY COMING OFF SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Freshman Cameron Tankersley recently was named SEC Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday. The award came after Tankersely claimed back-to-back top-15 finishes in his first two tournaments as a Rebel. The Dickson, Tennessee, native made a standout career debut for Ole Miss at the Badger Invitational (Sept. 11-13) and finished tied for 3rd. Following, Tankersley led for the Rebels in scoring a tie for 12th finish at SEC Match Play (Sept. 25-27).
LIGNELL EARNS SEC GOLFER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Following her strong season-opening performance that saw her earn her first collegiate individual tournament win, Andrea Lignell continued to have recognition pour in for her triumph in Charleston as the SEC conference announced her as the Co-SEC Women's Golfer of the Week to open the weekly awards this year. Lignell, who shot all three of her rounds in the 60s (67-68-69) to finish atop the Cougar Classic leaderboard, not only shot a career-low three-round score of 204 (-9) on the week but also now sits tied for the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history. TOWNSEND COMES IN CLUTCH DURING SEC MATCH PLAY
Ole Miss faced off with South Carolina at the SEC Match Play (Sept. 25-27) competition. With the Rebels and Gamecocks tied up at 2-2, it all came down to Townsend who was the final man standing in match play. Townsend started out with a birdie on Hole 1 to gain a lead against South Carolina's Lansdon Robbins, but then pursued in a back-and-forth battle in the front nine between the Gamecock leading and the Rebel tying the match up. Heading into the final holes, Robbins had a 1-up lead, but Townsend held par on Hole 17 to tie it up. On the final hole, Townsend took advantage of Robbins' bogey to secure the final point to give Ole Miss a 3-2 victory.
