Rebels Set for GARC Showdown
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second consecutive season, the No. 5 ranked Ole Miss rifle team opens its season with a heavyweight GARC battle against No. 6 West Virginia.
The Rebels return six members, including three counters from last season's 10-3 NCAA Rifle Championship team that placed fourth overall. All-Americans Lea Horvath, Kristen Derting and Claire O'Neel will look to lead the way as Ole Miss has its sights set on postseason glory.
Seniors Derting and O'Neel provide veteran leadership on the squad. The duo has risen to become one of the best in the sports over the past two seasons under head coach Marsha Beasley. Horvath has big expectations for her junior season. The reigning GARC Shooter of the Year can go toe-to-toe with the nation's best after posting the fourth-best average in the NCAA a year ago.
Junior Martina Gratz has provided Ole Miss with a strong air rifle presence ever since she stepped foot on campus. Last season she ranked third on the team with a 592.1 average in the discipline.
Sophomores M'Leah Lambdin and Katelyn Tinsley are back for the Rebels. They hope to build on their freshman campaigns from last year and break into the lineup as counters. Also looking to factor into the mix are a pair of freshmen in Julianna Hays and Emma Pereira.
Last season, the Mountaineers earned a share of the GARC title and finished sixth at the NCAA championship match. One of the nation's top programs brings back another strong team with nine returners and the addition of transfer Mary Tucker.
