Mario Garcia Romo Broke His Own 3K School Record
NASHVILLE, Tenn. / FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss track & field senior All-American Mario Garcia Romo added a fifth school record for the Rebels this weekend, concluding two superb outings at Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge and Arkansas' Tyson Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Less than 24 hours after shattering the Ole Miss mile record at 3:53.36, Garcia Romo continued to light the track on fire with another historic effort in the invitational 3K at Vanderbilt on Saturday. Garcia Romo won at 7:47.56, breaking his old school record of 7:48.40 from the 2021 Razorback Invitational last January. This is the third school record in as many meets for Garcia Romo, who opened his 2022 campaign with a record in the 1000-meter at Vanderbilt on Jan. 21 (2:20.12) before last night's mile record and today's heroics in the 3K.

Also clocking strong times were Nick Moulai in eighth at 8:00.13 (No. 10 Ole Miss history) and Dereck Elkins in ninth at 8:00.91 (No. 12 Ole Miss history).

Newcomer Tiarnan Crorken had a superb race of his own in his first 800-meter competition as a Rebel. The reigning U23 English champion in the 1500 ran 1:47.68 to win the invitational section of the 800-meter at Vanderbilt on Saturday, already the fifth-best in Ole Miss history indoors. All-American Baylor Franklin had an impressive open in the 800-meter as well, running an indoor PR of 1:48.14 to finish in fourth – the seventh-best time ever by a Rebel indoors. Everett Smulders clocked a season-best in eighth place at 1:49.02.

Other distance action at Vanderbilt included a season-best performance from senior Anna Elkin in the invitational 3K at 9:17.63.

Ole Miss also received a handful of solid efforts out of the women's shot put at Vanderbilt on Saturday, with Jalani Davis finishing sixth in the invitational shot put at a near season-best of 16.67m/54-08.25. In the open section, Tedreauna Britt finished runner-up at a large season-best toss of 16.22m/53-02.75, while Jasmine Mitchell also had a season-best in sixth at 15.17m/49-09.25.

Over at Arkansas' Tyson Invitational, the Rebels were led by strong performances in both editions of the 200-meter dash. All-American senior Elijah Dryer posted a top-10 finish at a season-best 21.21, just off his career-best indoor time of 21.08 from the SEC Championships last season.

In the women's 200-meter dash, sophomore Olivia Womack built off a career day in the 60-meter dash last night, finishing 20th at a PR of 23.91 – the ninth-best time in Ole Miss history. Also running season-best 200-meter times were Ariyonna Augustine (25th, 24.00) and Jayda Eckford (26th, 24.05).
