Third Straight Meet Reed Has Reset Ole Miss Record

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss track & field junior Lyndsey Reed has reset her own school record in the pole vault for the third straight meet, winning amidst a talented field after an impressive career jump at the Arkansas Qualifier on Friday.

Reed won at a near three-inch PR leap on her second attempt at 4.41m/14-05.50, shattering her previous school record of 4.34m/14-02.75 set just last week at Arkansas' Tyson Invitational – a school record she shared with teammate Samara McConnell. Reed's latest height currently puts her at No. 6 in the NCAA and No. 3 in the SEC.

The indoor season has been one for the ages for Reed, who has put together an impressive progression week-to-week. Reed entered the year with an overall PR of 4.28m/14-00.50 set last outdoor season and an indoor best of 4.15m/13-07.25, but has since gone on a torrid pace of 4.25m/13-11.25 at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Jan. 22, a school record 4.31m/14-01.75 at the Indiana Relays on Jan. 29, and the aforementioned shared school record of 4.34m/14-02.75 set at Arkansas last week. In a span of just three weeks, Reed has bested Rebel All-American Lindsey Murray's 2018 indoor record of 4.30m/14-01.25 by nearly a half foot.

McConnell was also in competition on Friday, finishing 10th at 4.01m/13-01.75. Reed and McConnell are the first teammates in Ole Miss history to clear 14 feet in the same season, and are just the second and third 14-footers ever at Ole Miss regardless of indoor or outdoor season.

The majority of the Ole Miss track & field teams return to action next week at the SEC Indoor Championships at Texas A&M on Feb. 25-26, but a men's and women's distance medley relay are set to run this Saturday morning (Feb. 19) at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational. The women's DMR is scheduled for 10:40 a.m. CT, with the men to follow at 11:10 a.m. CT.
