Rebels Fall 5-1 in Hammond
HAMMOND, La. – Ole Miss fell in its midweek clash with Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday, dropping a 5-1 ball game at Alumni Field.
Jack Washburn took the loss despite a solid outing, allowing a pair of runs on four hits and three walks, striking out five.
Kemp Alderman got the Rebels (13-3) on the board first, smoking an RBI double hard off of the left field wall, bringing home TJ McCants from second.
The Lions got the run right back in the home half, however, on a solo home run off the bat of Tyler Finke. The next inning, Shea Thomas came across on a wild pitch to put SLU (8-9) up 2-1.
Taking advantage of some Rebel miscues, the Lions tacked on two more runs in the 7th and added another on a solo home run in the 8th to make it 5-1.
The Rebels had some chances in the middle innings to get back on the board themselves but were unable to come through with the timely hit, dropping the first midweek game of the season.
Ole Miss turns its attention to its SEC opener this weekend at Auburn. The Rebels and Tigers will square off Thursday through Saturday, with Thursday's affair airing on national television on the SEC Network. Friday and Saturday's games will air on SEC Network +, while all three games can be heard on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
