Daniel Viveros Notches Second-Best Shot Put Mark in School History
AUBURN, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field came away with three more event victories at the conclusion of the Tiger Track Classic held at Auburn on Saturday.
Junior thrower Daniel Viveros picked up his outdoor season right where he left off after an impressive indoor campaign, winning the shot put today at an outdoor PR of 18.69m/61-04.00. That toss ranks as the second-best in Ole Miss history outdoors, and is within two inches of his overall career best 18.75m/61-06.25 set last month at the SEC Indoor Championships.
Other event wins on Saturday came courtesy of freshman Madison Hulsey in her first collegiate track race in the women's 800-meter at 2:12.12, and the men's 4x100-meter relay of Ryan Star, Elijah Dryer, Kenney Broadnax and Tristyn Wooley at 40.39 seconds.
Ole Miss also nabbed a couple of additional runner-up relay finishes, with the men's 4x400-meter relay quartet of Isaiah Weasby, Dryer, Star and Jacob Lough running 3:15.40, and the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Toni Glatz, Olivia Womack, Ariyonna Augustine and Jayda Eckford finishing second at 3:44.86.
Elsewhere on the track, newcomer Spencer Brown took runner-up honors in the men's 110-meter hurdles at a large PR of 14.35 (+1.5), the 10th-fastest time ever run by a Rebel.
Ole Miss received two additional strong runner-up finishes in the field on Saturday. Sophomore Samara McConnell did so in the women's pole vault, where she came in second on total misses at earlier bars before her best of 4.01m/13-01.75, and fellow sophomore jumper Kyla McLaurin did in the women's triple jump at 11.85m/38-10.50 (-0.5).
Other Rebels with impressive performances on Saturday included a pair of PRs in the women's 200-meter dash from Kelly Rowe (fourth, 23.88/+1.0) and Toni Glatz (seventh, 24.27/+1.2), as well as sophomore Ukurugenzi Kojo in the men's high jump at 2.05m/6-08.75, which ranks 12th-best in Ole Miss history.
Ole Miss now returns home to host two consecutive home meets: first, the Ole Miss Classic on March 25-26, and then the Joe Walker Invitational on April 8-9.
