Rebels in the Rankings
Ole Miss found themselves ranked No. 22 in the nation in Golfstat's NCAA Team Rankings, while the Rebels also clocked into the No. 25 spot in Golfweek/Sagarin's Collegiate Team Rankings. Jackson Suber sits as the lone Rebel ranked within both the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin Top 100 NCAA golfer rankings. Suber currently holds the No. 30 position in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, while ranking No. 40 in the nation in the Golfstat Individual Rankings. Suber also sits No. 10 in the nation in the latest edition of the PGA TOUR University Velocity Global Rankings, where teammate Evan Brown also holds a ranking of No. 63 overall.
Suber Makes PGA TOUR Debut at Valspar Championship
Rebel senior Jackson Suber saw a childhood dream come true last week, as Suber would travel to his home tournament of the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida to make his PGA TOUR debut on a sponsor's exemption. Suber would not make the cut after finishing with a 144 (+2) over two rounds, but Suber would finish below par in his first round of golf on the tour, with him shooting a 70 (-1) on Thursday. In playing at the Valspar, Suber became just the third Ole Miss Rebel to actively play on a professional tour roster, with Rebel alumni Braden Thornberry and Jonathan Randolph both currently playing on the Korn Ferry Tour, having each made their PGA TOUR debuts in the 2010s.
Brown Leads Rebels at Louisiana Classics
Leading the way for the Rebels at the Louisiana Classics was graduate transfer Evan Brown, with Brown concluding his tournament 12th overall individually, finishing with a three-round score of 210 (-6). Brown's tournament would open with a 67 (-5), marking a season-best round for the Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, native. Brown would finish third in the field in par-4 scoring (-7), while sinking a grand total of 13 birdies and 34 pars over the weekend.
Birdies Galore for Vongchaisit In Lafayette
Putting together his best round of the season, senior Sarut Vongchaisit would close out his time at the Louisiana Classics by logging a team-best 67 (-5) to settle into a tie for 13th place in Lafayette. Vongchaisit would tally a total of 17 birdies in his weekend in Louisiana, ranking third amongst all golfers in attendance, while also sinking an eagle on the final day of competition. This would mark back-to-back top 20 finishes for Vongchaisit, with the Bangkok, Thailand, native having not had a top 20 finish prior since his 14th place finish at the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational in October of 2019.
Suber Chasing Rebel History to Close Out Season
Jackson Suber currently holds a season stroke average of 69.17 on the 2021-22 season, which puts the Tampa, Florida, native on pace to set a new Rebel program record for lowest season stroke average in team history. The current record holder for the Rebels, former NCAA champion Braden Thornberry, put together a 2016-17 campaign in which Thornberry would log a stroke average of 69.57 enroute to claiming the 2017 NCAA Individual National Championship.
