Rebels Dominate Knights 9-1 Sunday Afternoon in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. – Ole Miss' bats woke back up Sunday afternoon, tagging UCF for nine runs while allowing just one in a rubber match victory to claim the series at John Euliano Park.
Jackson Kimbrell earned his first win of the season in relief, allowing just one hit and no runs over 2.2 frames. Dylan DeLucia replaced Kimbrell for the last four frames and was electric, striking out six of the 13 batters he faced to earn the save.
After failing to cash in with the bases loaded in the opening frame, Ole Miss got things started in the second as Kemp Alderman and Hayden Dunhurst led off with back-to-back doubles and Peyton Chatagnier followed with an RBI groundout. The Knights responded with a run in the home half but it was 2-1 Rebs after two.
The Rebels added two more in the fourth to build some cushion, utilizing some small ball with a Chatagnier sac bunt and a Justin Bench sac fly to bring Dunhurst in. Two pitches later, Jacob Gonzalez pasted a double to the right-center gap, scoring another to make it 4-1.
Ole Miss continued to step on the gas, loading the bases in the sixth. This time, Chatagnier made the Knights pay, pulling a pitch and ripping a double down the line to plate a pair in Calvin Harris and Alderman.
The Rebels got some added insurance in the ninth, tacking on three more to put things out of reach. Harris got it started with a one-out triple, coming in on Banks Tolley's first career hit. Burford followed with a single to score Tolley and Chatagnier lifted a sac fly to plate the last run in the form of Dunhurst. DeLucia came back out and retired all three he faced in the ninth, locking up the series win.
Ole Miss returns home for a pair of midweek matchups this week, taking on Memphis on Tuesday and Alcorn State on Wednesday at Swayze Field. Both games are scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch, with streaming available via SEC Network+. The call can be heard on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
