Suber, Schell in the Mix for Individual Title After Both Log 11-Birdie Performances on Saturday

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped up a long day of play at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in second place on the team leaderboard, with the Rebels logging a two-round score of 551 (-17) to head into Sunday's final round in the title hunt.

The Rebels currently rank first in the field in total birdies, having logged 43 over the course of day one at The Club at Irish Creek. Ole Miss also ranks second in both par-4 (-3) and par-5 (-16) scoring on the day.

"We are really close to putting together a great round," said head coach Chris Malloy. "Once we eliminate the silly errors and three-putts, it will come. I will be very surprised if we don't have a great round tomorrow."

Jackson Suber leads the way for the Rebels individually, as the senior's two-round total of 136 (-6) has him tied for third overall. Suber's opening round of play proved to be his best on the day, with Suber tallying seven of his 11 birdies to finish round one with a 66 (-5), nearly matching his season-best round of 65 from his sixth place finish at the Blessings Collegiate in the fall. Suber ranks third in the field in total birdies.

Sophomore Brett Schell also saw success for the Rebels, with his strong round coming in the latter half of the day with Schell logging a 67 (-4) in round two to close out his Saturday four-under and in a tie for eighth. Schell matched Suber's 11 birdies on the day, while also ranking second in the field in par-5 scoring (-5).

Also settling into a top 20 position heading into the final day at Irish Creek was Sarut Vongchaisit, as Vongchaisit's day would end with him shooting below par in both of his rounds to sit tied for 16th overall at three-under (70-69–139). Vongchaisit has now finished par or better in 13 of his previous 14 rounds played this season, holding a stroke average of 70.53 on the year so far which ranks second amongst all Rebels for 2021-22.

After logging a 140 (-2) on the day, Evan Brown is the fourth Rebel of the day to finish below par with Brown sitting tied for 21st overall. Brown has tallied a total of nine birdies over his two rounds in Kannapolis, while also shooting four-under on par-5s on the day.

Currently tied for 60th individually, Jack Gnam rounds out the Rebels' lineup on the day after logging rounds of 76 (+5) and 70 (-1) on Saturday. Gnam's second round score of 70 would consist of five total birdies, all of which came during his front nine of the round.

Charlotte currently leads the way on the team leaderboard with a score of 548 (-20), putting Ole Miss behind by just three strokes heading into Sunday's final round of play.
