Rebels 18-2 in Duals Versus Rivals Under Beyers
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 51 Ole Miss Women's Tennis (9-8, 3-6 SEC) earned a 5-2 victory at home versus No. 61 Mississippi State (10-11, 1-8 SEC) at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Sunday.
Ole Miss controlled the match from start-to-finish, sweeping doubles and winning four of six singles matches versus the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Rebels improved to 9-8 overall on the season and 8-2 at home. Ole Miss earned its third victory during SEC conference play.
The Rebels mixed up all three pairings in doubles, working strongly in their favor. No. 3 pairing Rachel Krzyzak and Lillian Gabrielsen set the tone early, defeating Alexandra Mikhailuk and Alessia Tagliente 6-0. Sabina Machalova and Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher then earned a 6-2 win over Tamara Racine and Chloe Cirotte at No. 1 Doubles to earn a 2-0 doubles win for the Rebels. Ole Miss took a 1-0 match lead after the opening decision point.
Gabrielsen carried the momentum from doubles into her singles match at the No. 5 position. She defeated doubles opponent Mikhailuk 6-3, 6-0, to put Ole Miss ahead 2-0. Gabrielsen improved to 8-3 in duals this season. Krzyzak next defeated Cirotte at No. 4 Singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to increase the Ole Miss lead to 3-0.
Mississippi State shaved one away from the Rebels, taking No. 1 Singles in an extremely competitive individual match. The Bulldogs' No. 95 Emma Antonaki defeated No. 69 Sabina Machalova in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. The Rebels led 3-1.
Ludmila Kareisová sealed the win for the Rebels by taking down No. 123 Tamara Racine. The Rebel freshman defeated her ranked opponent 6-4, 7-5 on Court No. 3. The final two matches were played out.
The Rebels extended their lead to 5-1 after No. 120 Leclercq-Ficher defeated Magda Adaloglou in a third set 10-point tiebreaker. Reka Zadori fell in the tiebreak to Marta Falceto to result in a 5-2 final in favor of Ole Miss.
The Rebels have dominated the yearly rivalry dual versus the Bulldogs under Head Coach Mark Beyers. Over the last two decades, the Rebels are 18-2 under Beyers versus Mississippi State.
Up Next: The Rebels return home again next weekend to face Missouri on April 8 and Arkansas on April 10.
