Rebels Drop Game Two in 10 Innings at Swayze
The Rebels hit six home runs in the contest, the most in a single game since also registering six bombs against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2019. Jacob Gonzalez provided half of the blasts, becoming the eighth Rebel ever with three homers in a game.
Alabama (20-12, 6-5 SEC) took the lead in the third inning, plating a run on Tommy Seidl's RBI single through the left side. Ole Miss (19-11, 4-7 SEC) responded in the home half with back-to-back big flies by Peyton Chatagnier and Jacob Gonzalez to snag a lead of its own.
The Crimson Tide struck right back with two runs in the fourth, scratching a couple across on Drew Williamson's RBI single and a fielder's choice off the bat of Dominic Tamez.
The back-and-forth momentum of the game continued into the bottom of the fourth as the Rebel bats exploded for five runs to reclaim the lead, all done with two outs. Reagan Burford got things started with a solo home run to straight-away center field. Following a Hayden Dunhust double and Chatagnier single, Jacob Gonzalez launched a three-run shot into the student section, his second of the day. Tim Elko finished things off with an RBI single, making it 7-3 Ole Miss.
The Crimson Tide again had an answer, scoring three runs in the sixth on a Tamez single and a two run Jim Jarviz double to cut the deficit to one. Williamson followed with a grand slam in the seventh to completely turn things around, making it 10-7 Crimson Tide.
Gonzalez got the Rebels within a shout, becoming the first Rebel since Jude Voltz in 1999 to enjoy a three-home run day, cranking a two-run bomb to right to cut the Alabama lead to a single run. The next inning, Tim Elko launched a nuclear blast way out over the left field fence, tying the game at 10 apiece.
But, Alabama would have the last say, taking the lead in the top of the 10th on Zane Denton's two-run home run and closing things out with a clean bottom half of the inning.
Ole Miss will look to salvage game three on Sunday, taking on the Crimson Tide at 2 p.m. CT on the SEC Network. The call can be heard through the Ole Miss Radio Network.
