Pair of Two-Run Homers Spell Doom for Ole Miss
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss held the lead twice but couldn't hold it Sunday afternoon at No. 4 Arkansas, falling in the series finale at Baum-Walker Stadium, 4-3.
Starter Derek Diamond received the loss, allowing four runs in 4.2 innings of work. John Gaddis delivered 2.1 shutout innings of relief, while Brandon Johnson threw a scoreless inning of his own.
The Rebels grabbed the lead in the first as Justin Bench drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and cruised home on Tim Elko's sharp single to center.
Arkansas responded in the third, taking a 2-1 lead on Chris Lanzilli's two-run big fly to center field. The Rebs got the lead right back in the next half inning, though, with Kemp Alderman following up Elko's walk and Kevin Graham's double with a single into right, bringing both home to make it 3-2.
Another two-run shot put the Razorbacks back on top in the fifth. Lanzilli's single to put a runner on and Michael Turner lined a two-run job over the right field wall, pushing the Hogs ahead 4-3.
Ole Miss filled the bases in the ninth but couldn't come through with the clutch hit, dropping a tight affair to close out the series.
Ole Miss resumes SEC play next weekend at home, hosting Missouri in a three-game series at Swayze Field. All three games will stream on SEC Network + and can be heard through the Ole Miss Radio Network.
