Rebels Sweep Weight Throw, Also Win Women’s 60-Meter Dash

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss track & field came away with three more event wins and several other impressive performances at the conclusion of the Razorback Invitational on Saturday.

Senior transfer McKenzie Long wowed the crowd by winning both the prelim and the final in the women's 60-meter dash. Less than a full day after taking a tumble in the 200-meter dash, Long bounced back with a career-best 7.27 in the prelim – the second-fastest time in Ole Miss history. That time also puts her No. 8 in the SEC and No. 13 in the NCAA at this point of the season.

In the final, Long nearly replicated her performance from the prelim, winning by one hundredth of a second over Florida State freshman Dajaz Defrand, 7.28 to Defrand's 7.29.

All-American senior Jasmine Mitchell continued to excel in the weight throw, breaking the meet record en route to her first weight victory of the season. Mitchell's winning throw came on her first legal toss of the day in the second round, a 23.93m/78-06.25 heave that beat out teammate and runner-up Jalani Davis (23.02m/75-06.25) for the win. Senior Tedreauna Britt also made the final, finishing sixth at 19.76m/64-10.

Meanwhile, in the men's weight throw freshman Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan remained undefeated after a second-round performance of 22.14m/72-07.75 – four inches off his career-best and almost one foot further than runner-up Johnathan Witte of LSU (21.92m/71-11).

Senior transfer Anthony Camerieri, fresh off an excellent first cross country season as a Rebel, dropped a superb opening 3K on Saturday. Camerieri finished eighth in the highly-competitive field at a career-best 7:52.99, the second-fastest time in school history behind only NCAA Champion Mario Garcia Romo's 7:47.56 on Vanderbilt's oversized track last February. Camerieri's time today also currently puts him No. 3 in the SEC and No. 16 in the NCAA this year.

Senior Ahmad Young Jr. continued to show remarkable consistency in the men's 60-meter hurdles, running his second and third consecutive races at his PR time of 7.82 in today's prelim and final. Young Jr. finished fourth in the final at that time, which already ranked him No. 4 in Ole Miss history.

Over in the women's 60-meter hurdles, Ole Miss received three all-time performances as well from senior Jaiden Paris (8.37; No. 3 Ole Miss history), freshman Gabrielle Matthews (8.45; No. 6) and junior Jerricka Ambus (8.69; No. 12).

In the men's mile, senior Shane Bracken fell less than a tenth shy of his season best and half a second off his career-best, finishing third in a very fast field at 3:58.01 – his second consecutive sub-four mile.

Other performances ranking on the all-time Ole Miss lists came in the women's mile from Sophie Baumann (4:45.74, No. 6 Ole Miss history) and Kristel van den Berg (4:45.91, No. 7); in the women's triple jump from Kyla McLaurin (12.19m/40-0, No. 12); and in the women's 800-meter from Madison Hulsey (2:09.69, No. 11) and Jocelyn Long (2:09.92, No. 12).

Ole Miss will take next week off before splitting squad three ways on Feb. 10-11 for Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge, Arkansas' Tyson Invitational, and the Millrose Games in New York City.
