OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Keith Carter officially accepted the Rebels' 2023 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl invitation from bowl CEO & President Gary Stokan on Tuesday, locking in Lane Kiffin and company's matchup with No. 10 Penn State on Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. CT.
Media was on hand Tuesday at the Burns Team Meeting Room at the Olivia and Archie Manning Athletics Performance Center as Stokan officially extended the invite to Carter, Kiffin and the Rebels.
"As I said on our press conference day, styles make great fights," Stokan said of the Ole Miss-Penn State matchup. "We have a tremendous offense against a tremendous defense … Over 53 percent of [Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl] games have been decided by a touchdown or less. It's a very competitive atmosphere because we sell out. Particularly, Mercedes-Benz Stadium is going to be an unbelievable atmosphere with over 70,000 fans. We have sold out 24 of the last 27 games and expect this to be a sellout too."
The bowl representatives were thrilled when they found out Ole Miss was the pick out of the SEC, and Rebel fans are excited to make the short trip to Atlanta to support their squad.
"We are very excited to be going to Atlanta to play in the Peach Bowl," Carter said. "It's a very historic bowl with a lot of tradition there. It's a great matchup, and for us, maybe no better city to go to than Atlanta for our fan base. We feel like we are going to ascend on Atlanta and take over Atlanta. We are really excited about that and certainly want to come down and put on a great show for Ole Miss and Rebel Nation."
While the bowl reps and the fans are certainly ready for fun in Atlanta, so is the Rebel football team. Ole Miss has 20 players on its roster who are from Georgia, but regardless of their hometown, the Rebels are excited for a marquee matchup in a New Year's Six bowl.
"To be around our players and to have some practices now that we know we're playing in this, our guys are so excited to be in this big of a bowl against such a historic team to play in Penn State in such a great city of Atlanta, which of some of our kids are from," Kiffin said. "I know the parents, too, from talking to them are really excited to get there."
Bowl practice is rolling on for the Rebels in the shadow of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium as Ole Miss prepares for one of the nation's top defenses in Penn State.
Limited bowl tickets are still available through the Ole Miss ticket office. All lower level seating is sold out for the Ole Miss allotment. 300 Level tickets may be purchased in the Ole Miss sections at OleMissTix.com.
