Three Rebels Finish in Top-20, Schell Earns Medalist in Individual Tournament

HOUSTON, Texas – Ole Miss men's golf is coming home with hardware as it was crowned the winner of the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston. This is the first tournament title Ole Miss has achieved in the 2022-23 season.

The final round proved to be the most dominant for Ole Miss, as it shot a third-round score of 281 (-7) to take home the title. The Rebels' 7-under third round was the lowest round of the day out of the 21-team field. Ole Miss made 18 birdies and an eagle in the final round to push to the top spot on the final day of competition.

"Such an impressive round by these guys today. In tough weather conditions and it being the final round with some very good teams, they were at their best – especially down the stretch. Each of these guys contributed this week and it truly is a great team win. As I told them earlier. Winning is not only fun, but it's contagious."

Par-5s prove to be Ole Miss' key to success, as the Rebels led the field in par-5 scoring (-16). Overall, Ole Miss went par for 168 holes, while chipping in 51 total birdies through the two-day competition.

Finding success on the individual front, Brett Schell was named medalist honors for the All-American Intercollegiate Individual Tournament. Schell put in three birdies and an eagle in his final round to claim the honor by three strokes at 9-under overall. This is Schell's first individual tournament win.

Hugo Townsend continues his hot streak as he earned 2nd place honors with an overall score of 210 (-6). His 2nd place finish is a new season-best, which Townsend previously broke last week at the Seminole Intercollegiate. The graduate transfer was second in the field in par-4 scoring (-3) and put in 11 birdies overall. Townsend shot par or better in all three of his rounds in Houston.

Cameron Tankersley remains to be a dominant figure in the lineup as he earned his third top-10 finish for his freshman campaign. Tankersley sank his second eagle of the tournament on Hole 5 to get an early advantage and continued his streak in the back nine, making three birdies to close out with a 2-under round score. The freshman will head back to Oxford with a tied for 8th finish at 2-under overall.

Patton Samuels secured his best round of the tournament on the final day as he shot a 68 (-4) third round score. Samuels made six birdies throughout his final round to launch him up the leaderboard 40 spots. The freshman grabbed a tied for 17th finish at 2-over overall – a season-best finish for the Clarksville, Tennessee native.

Sarut Vongchaisit put in two birdies in his third round to end with a 1-over round score. Vongchaisit wrapped his time in Houston with a tied for 27th finish at 4-over. Wrapping up for the Rebels is C.J. Easley, finishing tied for 33rd at 5-over.

Following play in Houston, the Rebels will have a week-long break before getting ready for the Mossy Oak Collegiate (Apr. 3-4) in West Point, Mississippi. The event will be a two-day tournament played at the Mossy Oak Golf Course hosted by in-state foes Mississippi State.
