Men’s Golf Travels In-State to Compete in Mossy Oak Collegiate

Ole Miss to Contest in 18-Team Field at Mossy Oak Golf Course in West Point, Miss.
WEST POINT, Miss. – After a week-long break from returning from Houston, Texas as the All-American Intercollegiate Champions, No. 23 Ole Miss men's golf looks to continue its hot streak at the Mossy Oak Collegiate hosted by in-state foes Mississippi State. The two-day tournament is set to compete at the par-72, 7,212-yard Mossy Oak Golf Course from April 3-4 in an 18-team field matchup.
Ole Miss is coming off of its first claimed tournament title of the season at the All-American Intercollegiate. In the final round at the Golf Club of Houston, the Rebels pushed themselves to a 7-under round score and put them at the top of the leaderboard. Ole Miss brought home the hardware at 9-under (855) overall with three Rebels earning season-best finishes.
The Rebels will be paired with No. 15 Tennessee, No. 21 Mississippi State, and No. 33 Cincinnati for an 8:00 a.m. CT shotgun start to begin their time in West Point.

Mossy Oak Golf Course was rated by GolfDigest as the 2nd-Best Course in the State of Mississippi, by GolfWeek as 30th in the Top-200 Resort Golf Courses in the U.S., and was placed as 60th in Top-100 Greatest Public Courses by GolfDigest.

DON'T LET THE REBS GET HOT
Ole Miss had a busy March, earning three top-3 finishes in the three tournaments the Rebels competed in. They started out strong at the Cabo Collegiate, grabbing a 2nd place finish with an overall score of 846 (-6) among a stacked top-50 field to put themselves in the top-25 in rankings. In the following week, Ole Miss traveled to Tallahassee and finished in 3rd place in the Seminole Intercollegiate. Ole Miss rounded out its March at the All-American Intercollegiate, where it grabbed its first tournament title of the season at 855 (-9) overall.
SPRING SEASON IS SCHELL'S SEASON
Brett Schell has had an impressive spring semester for the Rebels as he earned a 1st place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate Individual Tournament, grabbing his first career individual tournament title with an overall score of 207 (-9). Schell led the 33-player field in par-4 scoring (-2) and was second in the field in par-5 scoring (-7). The St. Augustine, Florida native chipped in 13 birdies on the Golf Club of Houston Members Course.
Schell also grossed a tied for 2nd place finish at the Cabo Collegiate. Schell led the field in birdies, carding 18. From his first round to his final round, he managed to rise 46 spots on the leaderboard. His tied-for 2nd finish at 5-under overall helped Ole Miss finish 2nd among the 15-team field. Of the 15 teams, 13 teams were ranked in the top 50.
TOWNSEND ON TEAR
In the last two tournaments for Ole Miss, Hugo Townsend has been the best individual with two back-to-back top-5 finishes. At the Seminole Intercollegiate, Townsend put up a then-season-best finish of 4th at 213 (-3) overall. The following week, the graduate transfer broke his season-best finish with a 2nd place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate at 210 (-6) overall.
The Boden, Sweden native has finished in the top 20 in five tournaments for Ole Miss. Out of the four spring season tournaments that Townsend has competed in thus far for the Rebels, he has never finished above the top-25 in his performances.
NEXT ON THE TEE
Following play in West Point, the Rebels will have a quick turnaround before getting ready for the Mason Rudolph Championship (Apr. 10-12) in Nashville Tennessee. The event will be a three-day tournament played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course hosted by No. 1 Vanderbilt.
