Alderman and Harris Hit Home Runs In Loss

OXFORD, Miss. – After Ole Miss defeated Georgia 7-3 on Friday night, the Bulldogs came back on Saturday to even the series by an identical 7-3 final score.
The teams wrap up the series Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Georgia is 24-19 overall and 8-12 in the Southeastern Conference, while Ole Miss is 22-21 and 4-16.
Saturday's contest was a scoreless game until the top of the third when Rebel starter JT Quinn ran into some difficulty. A walk, a hit by pitch, and another walk set the table for the Bulldogs. Charlie Condon was then hit by a pitch, and Georgia was on the scoreboard. A Connor Tate fly out to right got another run home, and Parks Harber reached on a fielder's choice to get another one in. Cole Wagner struck out, but the visitors led 3-0 heading to the bottom of the third. The Bulldogs scored all three runs without a hit.
Ole Miss got a run on a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fourth by Kemp Alderman, his 18th of the season, to the left field corner to cut the Georgia lead to 3-1. But the Bulldogs answered in the top of the fifth with a Condon single and a Herber homer for a 5-1 lead. Sam Tookoian replaced Quinn who finished things up in the frame with no more damage in the fifth.
After a three up, three down top of the sixth by Tookoian, Ethan Lege led off with a single, and with one out Calvin Harris homered to cut the Bulldog lead to 5-3.
In the Georgia seventh, Tookoian ran into some trouble allowing a double followed by a walk. Riley Maddox was called on and made his first appearance of the season on the mound after Tommy John surgery and rehab. The sophomore right-hander got a fly out and two strikeouts to move the game to stretch time.
After Ole Miss failed to get anything in the bottom of the seventh, Fernando Gonzalez singled for Georgia, and Mitch Murrell replaced Maddox. After two outs, Ben Anderson singled to score Gonzalez. Cole Tolbert came in to pitch for Murrell.
Tolbert's first batter to face, Condon, walked, so two were aboard for the Bulldogs as Anderson moved to second. Tate then singled to score Anderson, and the Bulldogs were up 7-3. Herber struck out and the game moved on to the bottom of the eighth.
The Rebels weren't able to get anything as the Bulldogs replaced starter Charlie Goldstein with reliever Chandler Marsh. Georgia then went quietly in the top of the ninth as Tolbert pitched well.
Down to their last three outs, if they didn't somehow find four runs, the Rebels faced Georgia reliever Leighton Finley. Anthony Calarco singled to left to get something going. Will Furniss pinch hit for Judd Utermark but flew out to center field. TJ McCants bunted to the pitcher and was out at first. Peyton Chatagnier hit the baseball right back to the pitcher for an out at first. And the game was over.
Goldstein (3-1) got the win. Quinn (3-1) got the loss.
