Women’s Basketball Selected Fifth in SEC Media Poll, Madison Scott Named to Preseason All-SEC Second Team

10/14/2024 | Women's Basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Prior to festivities later this week at the SEC's Annual Basketball Tipoff in Birmingham, Ole Miss women's basketball has been voted to finish fifth in the SEC Preseason Media Poll and Madison Scott earned a spot on the All-SEC Second Team, released by the conference on Monday.

This marks the third consecutive year that Ole Miss has received top-five preseason recognition after earning No. 4 and No. 5 selections in 2023 and 2022, respectively. Additionally, the Rebels have surpassed expectations over the past four years, ending the season higher in the standings than voted on in the SEC Preseason Media Poll.

The defending national champions of South Carolina were voted to win the conference by select media, followed by NCAA Tournament teams in Texas, LSU, Oklahoma and Ole Miss to round out the top-five.

The Rebels are back for year seven under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and the 50th season of Ole Miss women's basketball as the team looks to reach its fourth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Eight Rebels return from last year's squad who set a school record with 12 SEC wins, including three key starters in Scott, Kennedy Todd-Williams and KK Deans. Newcomers are abundant for Ole Miss as McPhee-McCuin added three transfers with a combined 10 years of Division I experience and four freshmen to her already stacked roster.

For the second straight year, Scott earned Preseason All-SEC Second Team honors after securing First-Team All-SEC and All-Defensive recognition at the end of the 2023-24 season. Solidifying herself as one of the most decorated Rebels in program history, the fifth-year senior looks to build off her already illustrious career in her final season at Ole Miss. Scott will aim to climb the Rebel record books, jumping into the top-10 in games played, career double-doubles, double-digit scoring games, rebounds, points and blocks.

Fans have their first chance to catch a look at the Rebels in Oxford for its lone exhibition of the season, hosting Christian Brothers on Monday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. CT at the SJB Pavilion. Ole Miss will then head overseas to begin the regular season against USC for the 2024 Aflac Oui-Play on Monday, Nov. 4, set to air nationally on ESPN at 11 a.m. CT.
