Women’s Basketball Places Sixth in SEC Coaches Poll, Madison Scott Earns Preseason First Team All-SEC
10/24/2024 | Women's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Madison Scott once again earned a spot on the Preseason First Team All-SEC, as Ole Miss women's basketball was selected by the coaches to finish sixth overall in the reconstructed 16-team SEC, the conference announced Thursday.
Defending national champion No. 1 South Carolina was chosen to land atop the conference, followed by SEC newcomer No. 4 Texas. No. 7 LSU, No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 24 Alabama round out the top five.
The Rebels earned their second-straight spot in the Preseason Top 25 by the AP Poll last week, landing at No. 20. It's the 18th time Ole Miss has been honored in the preseason by the Associated Press. Ole Miss also found themselves in the fifth slot of the Preseason SEC Media Poll, along with Scott earning Second Team All-SEC honors.
The Rebels are coming off a season in which they reached their third consecutive NCAA Tournament and finished third in the SEC standings. Ole Miss' finish in conference play is the highest under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, and its 12 wins against SEC opponents is the most in program history.
Ole Miss returns eight letterwinners from last year's unit, including Scott, KK Deans, Kennedy Todd-Williams, J'Adore Young, Mariyah Noel, Ayanna Thompson, Kharyssa Richardson and Rhema Collins.
For Scott, her preseason All-SEC nod in the coaches poll is her second in as many years. The fifth-year senior is coming off back-to-back all-conference regular season honors. She clinched a spot on the first team last season, after averaging a career-high 12.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. She paced the team in rebounds, assists and field goal percentage, draining 48.2% of her shots.
The Rebels host Christian Brothers in their lone exhibition matchup this Monday, Oct. 28 at the SJB Pavilion at 6:30 p.m. CT. Admission is free for all fans against the Lady Buccaneers. Ole Miss opens the regular season in style, as its set to face No. 3 USC in Paris for the Aflac Oui-Play on Monday, Nov. 4. That game is set for an 11 a.m. CT tipoff and will be broadcast on ESPN. The Rebels return from Paris for their first game at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 10.
