Football at South Carolina: What to Watch

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 11 Ole Miss football team will look to get back on track after its first setback of the 2024 season as Lane Kiffin's squad readies for its first road trip of SEC play against South Carolina.

Bouncing Back
Walter Nolen called it the wake-up call Ole Miss needed. The Rebels will need to show their resolve these next two weeks on the road to get back on track to the College Football Playoff.
Quieting the Crowd
When Ole Miss last went to Columbia in 2009, the Rebels brought a No. 4 ranking and South Carolina pulled off the massive upset on national television, and on that day the Sandstorm tradition was born. Ole Miss will look to follow its blueprint of first-drive touchdowns to help calm the crowd. The Rebels have scored on the first drive of all five games this season, including four touchdowns.
Another Tough Defense
Ole Miss has another opportunity against another elite defense this week. South Carolina ranks in the top 30 nationally in total defense (14th), passing defense (23rd), rushing defense (28th) and scoring defense (30th) and boasts the SEC's sack and tackle-for-loss leader, Kyle Kennard.
Carolina Injuries
South Carolina's starting backfield, quarterback LaNorris Sellers and running back Raheim Sanders, were both listed as questionable on this week's injury report. Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer said that both practiced this week but were not 100 percent. Sanders amassed 232 rushing yards for Arkansas against Ole Miss in 2022. If Sellers is unable to go, the Rebels will see former Auburn signal-caller and one-time Rebel commit Robby Ashford.

South Carolina fans will certainly have their eyes on No. 3 on the Ole Miss offense, Antwane Wells Jr. Wells starred on the Gamecocks offense in 2022-23, including an All-SEC campaign in 2022 with 928 yards and six touchdowns. How will Juice do back in his former stomping grounds?
