Track & Field’s McKenzie Long Named Co-SEC Indoor Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field senior McKenzie Long has been named a co-winner of the SEC Indoor Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for 2024, the conference announced Wednesday.
Long is the first woman in Ole Miss track & field history to be named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year across either the indoor or outdoor seasons, and she joins fellow senior Loral Winn as the lone Rebel women's winners following her honor during the cross country season last fall. In the combined history of Ole Miss track & field and cross country, Long is now one of six total winners: Winn (2023 women's cross country), Aiden Britt (2022 men's cross country), Mario Garcia Romo (2022 men's indoor), Craig Engels (2017 men's outdoor) and Lee Ellis Moore (2011 men's outdoor).
Long – a senior native of Ironton, Ohio – has been a mainstay of the Rebel squad since transferring to Ole Miss prior to the 2023 season. In just one year with the Rebels, Long earned four All-America honors, three SEC medals, scored 29.25 SEC points and 15 NCAA points, and was highlighted by an NCAA runner-up finish and an SEC title each in the 200-meter outdoors. Long also laid waste to the Ole Miss record books, dismantling six different all-time records – chief among them her NCAA runner-up 21.88 (+2.5) in the 200-meter that ranks No. 3 all-time on the all-dates, all-conditions collegiate list.
This season, Long enters the SEC meet ranked 19th nationally in the 200-meter dash at 23.10, as well as 29th in the 60-meter dash at 7.28.
In the classroom, Long owns a 3.67 graduate GPA while working toward her master's of public health. Long was named an individual honoree for the USTFCCCA All-Academic awards in 2023.
Ole Miss is gearing up for the 2024 SEC Indoor Championships, held this weekend on Feb. 23-24 at Arkansas' Randal Tyson Track Center. Competition both days in Fayetteville will stream live on SECN+.
