Men’s Golf Sits in Second After 36 Holes at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 7 Ole Miss men's golf team had a successful day on the Seminole Legacy Golf Course as it carded a 566 (-10) 36-hole score. The Rebels are in 2nd place, just one stroke shy of the lead.
Four Rebels sit inside the top 20 with three being in the top 10. Michael La Sasso leads for Ole Miss in 4th place after firing off a 64 (-8) second round to bring him to 6-under overall. Cameron Tankersley is not far behind tied for 5th place at 4-under overall. Kye Meeks, competing as an individual, is tied for 7th at 3-under overall. Tim Tillmanns earned a tied for 11th placement after putting up a 1-under score through his first two rounds.
After the first 18 holes of the day, Ole Miss was in 3rd place with a 290 (+2) first round score. The Rebels turned up the notch in the second round, earning a 276 (-12) round score and pushing them to 2nd place.
"I was proud of the way our guys came out ready to compete today," said head coach Chris Malloy. "This was a goal of ours this week as we have gotten off to slow starts this year. Now it's time to turn the page and be ready to finish this tournament strong. It's always a challenge to beat a very good team on their home course, but these guys are ready to compete."
La Sasso began his first round in Tallahassee with a slow start, carding a 74 (+2) round score; just the third time this season the sophomore has shot over par. However, La Sasso began Round 2 in full force, earning a bogey-free front nine while making two birdies and an eagle. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native kept his momentum up and made three consecutive birdies to begin his back nine and end his round with a birdie on Hole 17 to earn a 64 (-8) second round.
Tankersley earned two bogey-free back nines in both rounds and made eight birdies through the day. Overall, the sophomore will look to capitalize in his final round and make moves on his tied for 5th placement at 4-under overall.
Competing as an individual, Meeks began his rounds on Hole 10. The Mississippi native got an early lead from Round 1 as he shot a 70 (-2) score. Meeks kept his hot streak going and put in a 71 (-1) second round. Meeks finished in 7th place at 3-under overall.
Tillmanns recovered well from his first round score of 75 (+3), knocking in a 68 (-4) second round. During the second round, Tillmanns secured a bogey-free front nine and made five birdies to bring him to tied for 11th.
Rounding out scoring for Ole Miss, Patton Samuels sits just outside of the top 20 at tied for 24th at 3-over overall. Tom Fischer looks to his final round to improve from his tied for 37th placement at 5-over overall.
Ole Miss will compete for the final round of the Seminole Intercollegiate on Tuesday, March 12, beginning at 8:40 a.m. CT and will follow in 10-minute increments.
