Women’s Tennis Takes Down No. 21 Alabama, 5-2

3/24/2024 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss- The No. 33 Ole Miss women's tennis team secured a ranked victory over No. 21 Alabama 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

The Rebels (10-5, 4-3 SEC) faced a tough matchup in doubles, after courts two and three both dropped their respective sets 6-2, putting the Crimson Tide (13-4, 4-3 SEC) up 1-0.

Ludmila Kareisova set the tone for singles after an electric performance in the second slot, adding the tying point on the board. She grabbed her first ranked win of the season, a hard fought 6-1, 6-2 victory against No. 104 Petra Sedlackova.

The Rebels continued to stay hot, as Rachel Krzyzak on court six secured her 40th win of her career, 6-4, 6-4. Anaelle Leclergq-Ficher followed suit, adding a third straight point for Ole Miss.

The match win was claimed when Emma Kette regained momentum at the fifth court, with a final score of 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.

Ava Hrastar made an outstanding comeback against ranked opponent Loudmilla Bencheikh after a first-set drop, 6-4. She forced a third set and did not let her foot off the gas as Hrastar took down No. 46 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

This is the highest ranked-opponent win for Ole Miss this season, and their best victory since defeating No. 17 Auburn at last year's SEC Tournament.

Up next, Ole Miss will head to Columbia, South Carolina to face the Gamecocks on Friday, March 29 at 4 p.m. They'll then turn around to Gainsville on Sunday where the Rebels will battle it out against the Florida Gators March 31 at 12 p.m.
