Baseball Shut Out In Game One Against No. 18 Alabama

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss and No. 18 Alabama began their three-game baseball series Thursday night at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field, and it was the Crimson Tide that came out on top 12-0.
The game was close until the fourth inning, with the visiting Tide leading only 1-0 through three. But in that top of the fourth, Alabama put nine runs on the board to take a 10-0 lead.
Ole Miss was never able to answer and get any runs on the night against Crimson Tide pitchers. Two more Alabama runs were scored in the fifth.
Ole Miss starter Riley Maddox gave his team a chance with three solid innings before running into some trouble in the fourth. Austin Simmons relieved Maddox, followed by Mitch Murrell and finally Ryne Rodriguez, all who made mound appearances.
Maddox (2-6) allowed five runs, four of them earned, on nine hits with a strikeout. The Crimson Tide had 16 hits in the contest.
Alabama starter Greg Farone (4-1) went the distance in this one, pitching seven frames and allowing no runs on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
The Rebel hits were scattered among six players, with Ethan Groff, Andrew Fischer, Jackson Ross, and Judd Utermark all reaching on base hits, while Will Furniss and Luke Hill got aboard with doubles.
Ole Miss fell to 22-19 overall and 6-13 in Southeastern Conference play. Alabama is now 27-15 and 8-11.
The two teams continue the series Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
