Men’s Golf Looks Towards Final Round of SEC Championship in Ninth Place

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.- The Ole Miss men's golf team capped off the second round of stroke play at the Sea Island Golf Club in 9th place at 1-over par on the week.
 
With Michael La Sasso back in action today, the Rebels came to play, shooting even with par on the front nine as a team. Ole Miss captured 25 birdies and had 125 pars through 36 holes. The Rebels concluded day two with a 280 (E) team score.
 
The Rebels will need to complete a comeback during tomorrow's final round to be in the top eight teams on the leaderboard to advance to match play through the weekend.
 
"We didn't get much out of our round today even though the guys played well from tee to green," said head coach Chris Malloy. "They have been dealt a tough hand this week but we still have one more day left. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be our best day thus far. I have a great feeling about this group."
 
Cameron Tankersley led the pack for the Rebels today, shooting a 69 (-1) to put him at a 137 (-3) on the week. The Dickson, Tennessee, native achieved the best round of the day for Ole Miss with the help of going bogey-free for 16 consecutive holes.
 
Kye Meeks continued to battle throughout his second round, achieving a 1-under front nine. The junior struggled in the back nine, but still remained in the top 20 at tied for 20th at 139 (-1).
 
Sophomore, Tom Fischer, went to work for the Rebels shooting an even 70 to stay on par for the week. The Alabama native capped off the day tied for 28th place.
 
La Sasso was subbed in for the Rebels during Round Two and came out ready to play, shooting a birdie on hole two and continuing on to capture two more birdies on the back nine. The No. 4 ranked sophomore stayed pristine throughout his first 18 holes of play and shot an even 70-par.
 
Tim Tillmanns came back from his first round score and went 71 (+1) during his second round. He will look to the final round to improve on his tie for 57th placement.
 
Ole Miss looks to make a run at day three of the SEC Championship. The Rebels will need to move into the top eight tomorrow to make the cut to make a run at the SEC Title and continue play into the weekend.
 
The Rebels will continue its competition in Georgia on Thursday morning where it will tee off, beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT. The Rebels will be paired with Arkansas and Alabama for Round Two.
